View only "Shared" Mailbox
I've just successfully created a shared mailbox on Exchange 2007 using the following command.[PS] C:\>New-Mailbox -Name: 'SharedMailBox' -OrganizationalUnit: 'company.local/CO/Shared Mailboxes' -Database: 'SERVER.company.local\Basic Storage Group\Basic Mailbox Database' -UserPrincipalName: 'sharedmailbox@company.local' -SharedThen using the EMC I used the "Manage Full Access Permissions" tool and added the Domain Global Group that I created to have full access.I see the only options using the EMC is for Full Access and Send As. I have two questions.First, is there a way to grant a user "READ ONLY" access to this mailbox? I have a few users that will be working from this mailbox that need to be able to read the messages but I need to ensure that they don't delete any messages from this mailbox. Is this possible to do from the EM Shell? Is so, can you please provide an example?Second, I want to make sure I understand the "Send As" permission. If someone with this permission replies to a message in the Shared mailbox, the reply will come from the "PRIMARY" email address assigned to the SHared mailbox. Is this correct? So alternatively, if I don't assign anyone "Send As" permission, when they reply to a message in the shared mailbox, their reply will come from thier own email address. Is this correct?

1. You can not give Read-only permission from EMS/EMC, you need to give mapi folder level permission to users starting from root of the mailbox and all folders. Refer below article for further detail.Minimum permissions necessary to access mailbox datahttp://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/01/25/418099.aspx2. Yes, if you grant Send As permission then users can send a mail by selecting shared mailbox in From field. If you don't assign send as permission and user is opening mailbox in separateoutlook profile for the shared mailbox, they need to choose their original email address in From field otherwise they will get error while hitting Send button that you don't have permission to send with this.Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Hi Amit, If I assign the read only permissions to a user on shared mailbox using the way you specified above and someone who have full access on this mailbox create another folder in Inbox or any other folder would it replicate automatically for user who have read only permission and as well as the permisions to read only user?Best Regards, Parveen Email- prvpnr@hotmail.com
